Spicy Ginger Green Beans

Spicy Ginger Green Beans

These bold and flavorful green beans strike the perfect balance between heat, umami, and aromatic ginger. The toasty richness of sesame oil pairs beautifully with tamari and sriracha, while fresh ginger and garlic bring brightness to every bite. Lightly steamed, these beans retain their crunch while soaking up the rich, spicy sauce—making them a perfect side dish or a quick, nutrient-packed snack.

Chef’s Tip

Ingredients

  • 3 cups green beans, trimmed and cut into halves or thirds
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, micrograted and peeled
  • ½ tablespoon garlic, pressed
  • 1 tablespoon wheat-free tamari
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat the oil: In a large sauté pan over medium heat, warm the toasted sesame oil.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: Add ginger and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then stir for another 30 seconds to prevent burning.
  3. Add the sauce: Stir in tamari, mirin, and sriracha, keeping the heat at medium.
  4. Cook the beans: Reduce the heat slightly, add the green beans, and stir to coat. Cover and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Adjust as needed: If the pan looks too dry, add 1–2 tablespoons of water to prevent burning and create a light sauce.
  6. Rest & serve: Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with black sesame seeds and add salt and pepper if desired.
Chef’s Tip

For extra seasoning, finish with a splash of fresh lime juice just before serving. Can swap sriracha for chili crisp or sambal oelek! Want a different extra crunch? Sprinkle with toasted crushed peanuts!
